semester reflections...

during this semester i have learned a lot. i have learned to add much more detail to my essays and also how to fix mistakes like punctuation, transitions, and grammar. i enjoyed working in groups and having competitions in class. i liked how the essays allowed us to talk about things that we like to talk about every day and use our imagination. i liked most of the readings up to the food parts were i think we went a little over-board (no disrespect to prof.Simon) but they were very informing.one of my favorite memories of the class was when we watched the video of 16 and Preganant. that clip brought a lot out of me when i wrote my blog about it. all in all the class had its ups and downs but i liked it.

i feel fat lol

making this list makes me feel so fat lol. saturday, i had a sausage, egg,and cheese biscut, shrimp, chicken, corn, pizza, rice with beans, five chicken selects, large fries, and a chocolate turtle (candy). i guess saturday was a really hungery day for me. i was eating non-stop. everything tasted so good. the best meals i had were the shimp and pizza. the shrimp was mostly my favorite because my boyfriends grandmother made them just for me. she actually bought us all the food, except for the chicken selects, but we ate it all. i feel bad because i didn't eat any type of fruit i just piged out the whole day, but everyone has one of those days once and a while.

Double Duece in class blog

I agree with the statment that the residents of Double Duece should tell the cops, Hawk, and Spencer, what they know about crime in their complex instead of keeping quiet to benefit their well-being. I think they should tell them because they know, or have an idea on how to handle the gang unlike the residents. For example, i chapter three of the book were the committee first met Hawk and Spencer, a woman from the committee says "And how we supposed to stand up to them? We a bunch of women and old men and little kids. How we suppose to make some kind of life here when the gangbangers fuck with us when ever they feel like?". To me, this shows that they have no means to fight back and they need help. I think that they need the help of the police, Spencer, and Hawk because I don't think the residents of Double Duece would be able to get out of that life by themselves. Also, if they just kept quiet that would not solve their problem about the gangs and crime. The residents would still be stuck living in that dangerous nieghborhood.

Double Deuce for another point of view

When Spencer and Hawk arrive at the community action committee meeting, no one was happy to see Spencer at all. They were expecting him to be black, but they were in for a surprise. Everyone thought because Spencer was white, he would add to the problem instead of help get rid of it. They think that white people are the source of there problems. They felt that he was no different from any other white person, thinking they can just come in and tell them how to live, think, and act. No one wanted him there and they showed it but not having eye contact with him and barely talking to him at all.

16 & Pregnant

The episode about Chelsea reflects the reality of parenthood, pregnancy, and family responsibility. It really reflects the reality of parenthood because she has given birth to a live human being, so its not all fun games any more its all about the well being of the child. Being a parent means that your child comes first. You have to put aside your fun and games, parties, and friends and replace them with feeding, clothing, and keeping the baby healthy. Pregnancy plays a big part in this, if it didnt then it would have no purpose to the show "16 & PREGNANT" lol. After all, that is how babies get here, through pregnancy.

Family and responsibility were also very important in this episode. Family was important because she had both her mom and dad to support her, and also her boyfriend in the beginning. While Chelsea was pregnant, her boyfriend had to have a talk with her dad, and he promised him that he would step up and be a man, but he was there some of the time. This is were responsibilty comes in. Chelsea took full responsibility of her being pregnant, and wants the chance to be a good mom. Her boyfriend on the other hand, did not show responsibility at all once the baby was born. He was there for the birth, but after that he pretty much did't even care. Chelsea wants the best for her daughter, as does most other parents, but she also wants her to have both of her parents in her life. In my opinion, her boyfriend is a selfish jerk. i say this because he would rather work on his car and hang out with his friends, than to spend time with his own daughter. I think that its unfair that Chelsea has to miss 6 months of school and take care of the baby all by herself, while her boyfriend just hangs with friends, goes to parties, and works on his car. On top of all of that, the way he treats her and talks to her is terrible. He really needs to grow up, because that is NOT being a man at all. I am happy that she wants to move on with her life,without him because I feel that she shouldn't have had to put up with all of that. I wish her and the baby the best.

Real World DC??...get real.

My personal opinion of The Real World DC is that I do not find it entertaining at all. I find it no differnt than any other reality show today. I also found it strange that that the setting is in Washington DC, but there is only one black person on the show. I also think that the show doesn't portray the "real" DC. I feel that most of the reality shows today are the same in pertaining to, partying, drinking, and sex.

I think that the show is like most other reality shows because of all the sex, drinking, and partying that goes on. For example, when the group goes out to the club, the objective for some of the guys is to bring a girl back to the house. Andrew did just that, the last they went to out to the club. Although the show has drama in pertaining to, relationships and sexual preferances, but I still don't find it that interesting.

Analyzing the Reality of TV

Many shows shown on TV today are realistic and not realistic in their own ways. TV shows are real in the way they show the experiences the average person will go through. However those same shows add things to make the show more interesting which is where they can get non realistic. For example the show House is realistic in the way that it shows medical cases that require more attention than others. Despite that House is not realistic in the way it shows extensive drama with every case. Nevertheless the show would not retain its popularity if it showed a typical day in a hospital, because the show would get boring. In conclusion TV shows are realistic and not realistic but this is essential to the developement of television. TV shows need to be both realistic and not realistic, because if everything was realistic then TV would be boring, however it is good to have a little reality because it allows people to relate to what they watch.
